Studio One is our rolling artist opportunity to rent a studio at Art Space Portsmouth for short periods of between two to four months, depending on needs.

This is a fantastic opportunity for artists wanting a studio space to start or complete a project; to test ideas and develop new work; or see if having a dedicated space would help your practice, without the worry of making a big commitment.

Art Space Portsmouth has been providing affordable studios and support for visual artists for over thirty years.

Located in a converted chapel, we have a total of 31 studios ranging from 80 to 400 sq ft, designed to suit a wide range of visual art practices. The cost of our studios currently stands at £7.86 per square foot per annum*, which is reviewed on an annual basis. The studio rent also covers heating, lighting, electricity, maintenance, wi-fi connection, refuse collection and cleaning. There is 24-hour access to the studios, and all artists have access to a small-shared kitchen. Please note, only some of our studios have sinks, however, the building does have a communal wash-up area.

*Studio rents are reviewed on an annual basis by the management and Board of Trustees of Art Space Portsmouth

Requirements:

All of our studios holders are required to be active members of the organisation by agreeing to the Art Space Portsmouth membership agreement. An annual membership fee is payable (in equal monthly instalments) in addition to studio rent. Studio holders are also required to sign a studio under-lease with Art Space Portsmouth. Studio rent is payable in advance on a monthly basis by Standing Order. Studio artists are also required to pay a returnable studio deposit equivalent to two-months studio rent before the start of each tenancy.

All studio holders are required to:

• Use their studios on a regular basis (at least 2 days a week)

• Ensure that personal electrical items / tools are PAT tested and safe to use

• Adhere to Heath and Safety procedures and policies

Art Space Portsmouth offers membership to artists at all stages of their careers. All members pay a monthly membership fee and are required to sign a membership agreement with Art Space Portsmouth.

Membership Fees

£10 per month for off-site members (artists who do not have a studio at Art Space Portsmouth)

£20 per month for studio-holding members.
